The adaptive front lighting system (AFS) with Bi-Xenon headlamps is a new feature added to Mazda6's long list of active safety measures that includes dynamic stability control, antilock brake system and brake assist.
The Mazda Advanced Impact Distribution and Absorption System is further uprated − greater reinforcements and wider use of high-tensile steel better absorb impact energy in front, side and rear collisions while maintaining a rigid safety cage around the passenger compartment. Of course, there's a full complement of front airbags, and Mazda6 even features Mazda's first active headrests: in a rear-end collision the front headrests instantaneously move forward to support the head of the occupant while lightening the load of the impact. And to help protect pedestrians, there's an energy-absorbing space between the bonnet and the engine to reduce the risk of head injuries, while the front bumper has energy-absorbing foam in the bumper beam to lessen leg injuries.
