The handbrake on my 2002 Kia Carnival (Sedona) does not hold the vehicle unless it is pulled on VERY hard. I have taken up all the cable adjustment on both adjusters underneath to no avail. The drums are within wear parameters (under 256mm) and the shoes are worn but not excessively (worn too much for the handbrake system?). The rear wheels cannot be turned when using the normal brakes but will not hold without superhuman force on the handbrake lever.
Beside the worn shoes and drum, the streched cable may the cause. Do check the cable and readjust the handbrake lever, make sure the handbrake working for about 4 – 6 clicks.
